Omurice (오므라이스)
Korea
Light fried rice flavored with sweet‑sour ketchup, wrapped in a delicate omelet. The dish combines fragrant rice and airy omelet, creating a tasty and satisfying lunch.
Ingredients
- 0.5 pcs onion
- 1 pcs green onion
- 1 pcs carrot
- 115 g meat
- as needed vegetable oil
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1.5 tbsp ketchup
- to taste salt
- to taste pepper
- 4 pcs eggs
- 400 g rice
Steps
-
Finely chop the onion, green onion, carrot, and meat.
-
Heat a large skillet over medium‑high heat, add 2 tbsp vegetable oil. Sauté the onion, green onion, carrot, and meat, stirring, until the onion softens and the meat is fully cooked.
-
Reduce the heat to medium, add the cooked rice, stir to break up clumps. Pour in the soy sauce, add ketchup, salt, and pepper, continue stir‑frying until the ketchup is evenly distributed. Transfer the cooked fried rice onto a plate (1 serving each).
-
In a separate bowl, beat 2 eggs with a pinch of salt. On a small non‑stick skillet lightly brushed with vegetable oil, heated over medium‑low heat, pour the egg mixture and quickly spread it over the surface, forming a thin omelet.
-
When the bottom of the omelet sets while the top is still liquid, turn off the heat and place one serving of fried rice in the center of the omelet.
-
Using a spatula, fold both sides of the omelet over the rice, forming a “envelope,” and gently slide the resulting omurice to the edge of the skillet.
-
Flip the omurice onto a plate. If desired, shape it by wrapping with aluminum foil or a paper towel, and drizzle ketchup on top. Repeat steps 4–7 for the second serving.
