Grilled mackerel is a simple and popular dish of Korean cuisine. The fish is salted, optionally flavored with ginger and lemon juice, and then cooked over an open flame, on a pan, or under a grill.
Ingredients
- 1 piece Mackerel
- to taste Salt
- 1 tablespoon Lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon Ginger juice
- to taste Vegetable oil
Steps

Make several cuts across the fish's skin, pat it dry with a paper towel, optionally drizzle with lemon and ginger juice, generously salt both sides, and let it sit at room temperature for 20–30 minutes.

Before cooking, shake off excess salt from the fish.

On the grill: clean and lightly oil the grill with vegetable oil, heat to medium‑high temperature, place the fish skin‑side down, cook for 2–3 minutes, then flip and cook for another 2 minutes.

On a pan: heat the pan with a small amount of vegetable oil over medium‑high heat, place the fish skin‑side down, cook for 2–3 minutes, then flip and cook for another 2 minutes.

Under a broiler: preheat the grill to high heat, place the fish skin‑upward at a distance of 10–15 cm from the heating element, cook for 2–3 minutes, then flip and cook for another 1–2 minutes.
