Kkakangjeong (깨강정)
Korea
A nutritious, crunchy, and aromatic Korean dessert made from toasted sesame seeds, honey, and sugar. You can add your favorite nuts and seeds for additional flavor notes.
Ingredients
- 3 tablespoon honey
- 3 tablespoon sugar
- 1 pinch salt
- 1 tablespoon water
- 1 cup sesame seeds
- 0.25 cup roasted nuts and seeds
Steps
-
In a dry skillet over medium‑low heat, toast the sesame seeds for 5–6 minutes, constantly watching to prevent burning.
-
Add honey, sugar, salt, and water to the same skillet. Stir and bring to a boil.
-
Without stirring, cook the mixture until it turns a light golden color — about 3 minutes.
-
Remove the skillet from the heat, add toasted sesame seeds and roasted nuts/seeds. Mix thoroughly so everything is coated with the syrup.
-
Transfer the mass between two sheets of parchment paper. Let it cool slightly (≈ 1 minute), then press and roll with a rolling pin to a thickness of ¼–½ cm, forming a rectangle. If needed, trim the shape with a knife and roll again to an even thickness.
-
While the crunch is still slightly warm, cut with a sharp knife into pieces of desired size. Allow to cool completely and harden.
